I always joke that I’ll be really good at retirement. The one that has stood the test of time though, is sewing.
When I really have downtime, I love to sketch too. I create little 6×8 inch webpages with stories + pictures about me, my children plus our life through adding all of them to my yearly binding.
On the show Phone the Midwife I discovered that the ladies have got a “crafts hour. ” Everyone in the house sits together and works on independent projects. It’s so old school to emphasize working with your hands as a daily practice.
My pages are mainly digital, very minimal, produced on the computer plus printed out or converted to a book at the particular end of the 12 months. Not everyone enjoys this, great at it, or even would be seeking it out in his/her spare time. Fencing is an awesome sport for women at every age. My husband is nearing 60, and when he goes to tournaments, there are women who took up fencing in their 40s and 50s. I can extremely recommend checking out the local fencing club that will teaches adult classes. We would love to have a hobby, but maybe what I really want is to have some skills. I’m often surprised by how many people don’t read anything more than an article on Facebook.

In grade institution, my math teacher told me that because I used to be so great at math concepts i was not going to be able to be great at different languages and arts. I loved art so much, but at that moment decided I was never going to be great at it and I stopped. I read the best thing recently on another blog I follow for people who are afraid to try out a new crafting hobby because they don’t think they’re creative enough to do it. Crafting or making is not inherently creative; you don’t need to be creative to craft. If you’re following someone else’s pattern someone else has done the creative thinking about for you, what you just have to carry out is do the job â€" learn the talent. Much like learning the talent of driving or several other task, learning a new craft will take an although, and it does consider skill, but skills may be learned. Don’t let labels yourself as an “uncreative person” hold you again from learning a build.
I am super curious naturally therefore it’s a pretty great time. I acquired an Experts in Urban Studies plus now I blog regarding urban issues, particularly developing family-friendly, walkable cities. It is my “hobby” and so i just have time to article 2-4 times a 30 days, because Excellent demanding career in corporate communications. But, I find it so rewarding and a great way to connect with people who share my passion.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately (it’s even my podcast episode next week) because my hobby recently became my full-time job and I need a new one. I think a spare time activity is simply something to be able to think about/occupy your brain that’s not work or perhaps family. Reading is our simplest, most joyful leisure activity. I’ve loved disappearing inside books since I was obviously a little girl. I had been dumped by my very first love because I did not have any hobbies/passions. I actually just started watercolor piece of art at 37 yrs older and I am inside love.
My husband is also in search of a hobby right now and struggling to find something he wants to do. Maybe our personalities and interests are different, but my struggle is wanting to do all sorts of different things and not having enough time to do them. I also really enjoy birdwatching and hiking!
